Introduction
Engineering cannot be underestimated: the wellbeing of the world is largely dependent on the work of engineers.
Isaac Asimov, a famous science fiction author, professor of biochemistry and robotics devotee said: “Science can amuse and fascinate us all, but it is engineering that changes the world.”
Engineering touches everything and is responsible for our progress through the ages; it is, for example, fundamental to all forms of transportation, to power generation, communication technologies and biomedicine. Engineers also contribute to solving the complex challenges in the world today, including pollution, hunger and disease.
It is a prestigious career to pursue, with the highest average starting salary of any undergraduate major. Because it is a respected profession the world over engineers can also consider working abroad.

Industrial Experience
This program requires the completion of 240 hours of relevant industrial experience in an engineering environment under professional supervision. Two periods/units are allocated as time in which to achieve this. An industrial experience research project unit will provide you with the tools needed to meet your professional technologist and engineering outcomes. In addition, the program will also entail a hands-on workshop, which will be used to verify your hands-on work skills. If you already have experience relevant to any of the above, you may apply to have credit granted by completing the associated recognition of prior learning form to demonstrate that your experience is of a sufficient nature and standard
Prior Learning Recognition and Exemptions
EIT can give you credit for units where you can demonstrate substantial prior experience or educational background. An assessment fee may apply. If you wish to find out more please ask us for your copy of the policy for recognition of prior learning.
Presentation Format
The program is delivered on-campus, facilitated by an on-campus lecturer. You will be required to attend one of two daily classroom sessions (Monday – Friday). The available session times will be 8.00am – midday, and 1pm to 5pm. Please note we cannot guarantee that you will be placed in your preferred session, and on-campus attendance is compulsory.
The classroom sessions will be conducted by a dedicated on-campus lecturer, and will include video presentations, live stream tutorials with supplementary expert lecturers based around the world, practical exercises, assessments, class discussions and personal study.
Time Commitment
Each unit is composed of 10 hours of study per week (40 hours total) as follows:
- 1 hour pre-recorded lecture facilitated by the on-campus lecturer
- 1 hour tutorial lecture (live stream)
- 1 hour remote/virtual and local lab/assignment work
- 7 hours of personal study (guided and unguided)
Hardware and Software Requirements
Students are required to have a laptop computer for the duration of the program. Internet access will be provided in your classroom sessions however we strongly recommend that students arrange access to a computer and Internet connection outside classroom session hours, either through purchase, public library access or other arrangements, in order to continue with self study, assessment work etc.
Software for live stream sessions, simulations, remote and virtual laboratories will be provided.

Program Structure
EIT have four available Bachelor of Science streams: Industrial Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Civil and Structural Engineering.
If you select the Mechanical Engineering stream, you must complete 81 credit points comprising of 12 x core units (each worth 3 points), 2 x Industrial Experience Research Project units (with no credit points), 1 x Final Year Project (9 points value) plus 12 x Mechanical Engineering units (each worth 3 points). There are no optional or elective units in this program.

- An Australian Senior Certificate of Education or equivalent; OR
- A relevant (to the sub-discipline) Engineering Advanced Diploma or higher from an Australian higher education institution; OR
- An overseas qualification equivalent to the above item from a structured program of learning that leads to the full or partial achievement of an officially accredited qualification undertaken at a tertiary institution such as a university, government technical college, or government recognized private college (EIT assesses overseas qualifications using Australian Government guidelines to determine their comparability to qualifications); AND
- Satisfactory English language proficiency at an English pass level in an Australian Senior Certificate of Education or equivalent; OR
- A specified level of achievement in a recognized English language test such as: IELTS (or equivalent) at a score of at least 6.0 (with no individual band score less than 5.5); or TOEFL equivalent;
It is desirable that applicants hold a Senior Certificate with:
- Advanced Mathematics; or WACE Mathematics: Methods; or equivalent
- Physics and Chemistry, with equivalents considered.
Applicants with WACE Mathematics Applications (or equivalent) will be accepted, but EIT may also recommend a bridging course as a supplementary activity.
